The Human Genome Project And It’s Impact on the 21 st century Made by RA-A Made by RA-A
3
In 2003 scientists had complete the Human Genome Project The goals of the project were to identify all the approximate 30,000 genes in human DNA Scientists obtained the DNA sequence of the 3 billion base pairs making up the human genome
4
Diverse Applications of DNA Data and Technologies
6
Energy and Environmental Applications using microbial genomics
7
Bioanthropology Bioanthropology · Study migration of different populations groups throughout time · Study mutation on the Y chromosome to trace lineage and migration of males · Trace breakpoints in the evolution of mutation with ages of populations and historical events
8
Risk Assessment · Assess health damage and risks caused by radiation exposure · Assess health damage and risks caused by exposure to mutagenic chemicals and cancer-causing toxins · Reduce the possibility of heritable mutations
9
Agriculture, Livestock Breeding, and Bioprocessing · Make crops and animals more resistant to diseases and healthier, and more productive. · Make disease, insect, and drought, resistant crops · Develop new environmental cleanup uses for plants
10
· Prove the innocence of people who are wrongly accused of crimes · Establish parenthood and other family relationships · Identify endangered and protected species as an aid to wildlife officials · Match organ donors with recipients in transplant programs
11
