Substrate - foods New Orleans Food Safety – Approximately 3,800 food establishments affected by wind and water. Power losses resulted in food spoilage Some food items came in direct contact with flood waters. Need for additional sanitarians to conduct timely inspections of food establishments. Allegheny County Food Safety – Food establishments in in flooded areas affected.. Power losses resulted in food spoilage. Some food items came in direct contact with flood waters. Health Department staff adequate to conduct timely inspections of food establishments.

Substrate - Solid Waste & Debris New Orleans Huge quantities of debris 30 M cu yds. Some materials are hazardous. Sediment & Soil Contamination – Potential exists for contamination from chemical releases from industries, businesses and homes. Potentially large areas of the city need to be assessed and cleaned up. Allegheny County significant quantities of debris. Local landfills capable of handling. Some materials are hazardous (Freon from refrigeration equipment) Sediment & Soil Contamination – Potential exists for contamination from chemical releases from industries, businesses and homes.

Substrate - Homes New Orleans Housing – 80% of structures sustained damage. Large portion sustained sever structural damage. Key issues: Moving people back Clean up of damaged buildings not requiring demolition. (Mold) Flood waters may make some buildings un inhabitable even if there structurally sound (Mold). Inspection and Demolition of buildings structurally unsound. Allegheny County Housing – Structures sustained water damage. Majority re habitable. Provided guidance on flood cleanup. Provide information and technical assistance on dealing with Mold issues.
