1. Question: How does one pinkify a town? Answer: One doesn't. It takes the chamber of commerce, service clubs and those affected by breast cancer!

2. Pinkification:  We call it pinkification, or to pinkify.  Making your town pinker (literally) than your neighbouring towns, and at the same time, raising more money (per capita) than your neighbouring towns.  The winning town gets a free music concert and two very large reflective highway signs to advertise its accomplishment.

4. In Legal … Elvis (and Loretta Lynn) entertained the town after a fabulous smorgasbord dinner. Fire hydrants flowed so pink duckies could race down main street during the parade!

5. In Grande Prairie … A community steak dinner at the ag facility followed by live community theatre. A cash bar throughout the evening … and a very lively live auction.

6. In Wanham … A midnight vigil for those lost to breast cancer and for survivors. Participants bought a candle in memory or to celebrate life after breast cancer. Even the Catholic church got in the spirit. That’s a rosary you see hanging on the side. “Beads” were sold either in memory or with hope as a fundraiser.

7. In Hythe … Dinner and entertainment and the most incredible cakes we have ever seen! Hythe has to be the cake- making capital of Alberta! Dark pink angels were sold in memory of those lost to breast cancer. Light pink was for survivors. The Angel Tree was a focal point in town for months.

8. In Wembley … Dinner, belly dancers, fantastic decorations and so much more. They even built a “pink-neck hot tub” from hay bales and big tarps … with a water slide down into it! Tickets were sold and there were draws for many exotic items. It was a great evening for everyone.

Pinkest little baseball tournament Pinkest little strawberry tea Pinkest little dessert party in the park Pinkest little business competition Pinkest little house competition Pinkest little bicycle in the parade competition Pinkest little show and shine Pinkest little golf tournament Pink sidewalk of hope (selling names on pink ribbons painted on walkways) Pink bra decorations (collect bras, dye them pink and sell them to businesses for decorations) Pink ribbon sales (breast cancer ribbons, cowboy boots or horseshoes – stores in town offer them for sale by donation and then use the sold ones as decorations in the stores) Pink buildings (if you have a building scheduled for demolition, paint it pink and sell the opportunity to put a loved ones name on the building) Town quilt (have the local quilting group build a special quilt and raffle it) Pink T-shirt sales Pink silicone bracelet sales Other fundraisers we’ve heard about:

And on the whackier side: Walk a Mile in Her Shoes (men get pledges to walk a mile in women’s high heels) Pink Torture (donors pay $1 to vote to inflict “torture” on a local well-known citizen -- teacher, mayor etc – in the form of dying that person’s hair pink or dressing him/her in a pink clown’s outfit, etc) Pink wind socks (In the Crowsnest Pass, where the wind seldom stops, they struck a committee and built wind socks that were used to decorate the town and then sold for $10 each at the end to top off their fundraising) The Pink Building (the Innisfail Co-op sold pink paint – re-tinted mistints – with a roller taped to the side for $10. This let people paint the outside of the building. They raised $5,000!)
