P, S, and Surface Waves P – Primary waves – travel through the body of the eart(body waves), arrive first, push and pull what they travel through, can go through solid rock and liquid magma. S- Secondary waves – body waves, arrive second, move material up and down, can go through rock. Cannot go through liquid magma. Surface Waves – travel on the surface, inflict the most damage Love waves – move ground from side to side Raleigh Waves – move vertically and horizontally
