4/27/2015 Page 7 2006 CTMA Plenary Session Candidate Project Ideas Project: Special Hull Treatment (SHT) Removal Problem: Submarine DMP, SRAs, & EROs all require SHT Tile Removal Hundreds of tile removed in a single event REPAIR COSTS: 36 and 41 separate grinding operations were required recently to repair SHT removed areas on two submarines In over 3 years, there were 106 documented grinding jobs on 7 availabilities at a US Navy shipyard regarding Tile Removal each costing > $6,500/repair (TOTAL $689K) Solution: Laser?
