1. The UZHELTH Project UZHELTH = “Enhancing Public Health Learning and Teaching in Higher Education Institutions of th Republic of Uzbekistan” First UZHELTH Plenary Meeting Tashkent, 24-26 April 2014

Information about UZHELTH UZHELTH is a Structural Measures project, supported morally and financially by the European Commission through the Tempus programme of its Directorate for Education and Culture. It is run by a Consortium of 15 partners, soon to become 17, including 4 European Universities, 10 Uzbek HEIs, and the Ministries of Higher and Secondary Specialised Education, of Health and of Agriculture and Water Resources. The Grantholder and Coordinating institution is the University of Pisa, Italy The Country Coordinator is the Samarkand Agricultural Institute. The project began on 1 December 2013. From the Project Summary. UZHELTH will: - develop the capacity of Uzbek HEIs to train public health personnel of various levels of responsibility and autonomy to enhance the level of human health in the broadest sense. - using Tuning Methodology, implement a structured process of mapping, consultation, restructuring, monitoring and evaluation to assist Uzbek HEIs to reorganize, coordinate, extend and modernize the training offered. - work closely with the relevant Ministries to promote the necessary normative changes to make state-of-the-art competence-based Learning Teaching and Assessment in the Public Health sector compatible with Ministerial directive and professional regulations. From the Project Summary (continued) UZHELTH will: Enhance single disciplinary areas (Public Health, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Food Safety and Environmental Protection, Pharmacy) -formulate an overall Sectoral Qualifications Framework (SQF) for the Public Health sector - constitute a sustainable platform for cooperation not only between Uzbekistan and the European partners, but also with related projects and developments in the rest of the world. From the Project Summary (continued) UZHELTH will: - Through consultation processes create a structured relationship between the HEIs and private enterprise and public bodies, introducing them as necessary partners in the creation of an efficacious overall public health system. - create coordinated information structure for the Public Health sector, able to put actors and stakeholders into immediate communication; and to train health personnel of all levels (technicians, experts, specialists, researchers) to utilize the system effectively.
