Challenges and Opportunities Gone are the days when “SIP” was synonymous with “just a taste” –PM 10 Maricopa County 5% Plan Pinal County Redesignation –Ozone Phoenix area – for now –SO 2 Copper smelter specific areas in Hayden and Miami –Lead “IF” SIP –Regional Haze Revising 2009 ozone boundary recommendation

Exceptional Events Summer of 2011 was extreme –17 PM 10 exceedance days in Maricopa County alone –Around 100 monitored violations –1 hour PM 10 concentration of more than 6,000 µg/m 3 Working closely with staff in Region 9 to address –Draft demonstration for July 2 – 8, 2011 submitted Concerns with April 2011 guidance document still remain. –Rural area exceptional event demonstrations –Dispute resolution

12. On the horizon New Source Review Reform & SIP Gap Emergency Episodes Rule SO 2 maintenance plans and their interaction with existing SO 2 NAA Regional haze? Regional air quality planning –Ozone –CSAPR?
