13. Planning A planning session is required for a CME activity and is part of the needs assessment process and helps provide evidence of educational intent. The planning session also provides an opportunity to establish the linkage between needs, objectives, instructional design, and results/outcomes.

20. CME Application Question 1 What is the physician target audience for the CME activity? What is the physician target audience for the CME activity? Sample Answer Identify the type of health professional the activity is targeting—i.e. house staff, family medicine physicians, ophthalmologist, nurses, neurologist, etc.

Statement of Need/Gap The professional practice gap is the overall need for the educational activity that relates to the target audience and derived from the Needs Assessment Educational needs provide the reason for offering CME activities. They may imply a deficit in knowledge, skills, attitudes and/or behavior among prospective participants

Competence –Having the ability to apply knowledge, skills, or judgment in practice if called upon to do so. Performance –What a physician actually does in practice.
