7 Activities Key activity : the Maturation to detect, assess, finance, support the innovation projects from the laboratories in order to increase the transfer to the economic field - Optional activities : Delivery of service (Training/campaign, detection, etc.)

8 Business model of SATTs SATTs are private companies with public shareholders (CDC, universities, research centers). IP belongs to shareholders those exclusively entrust SATT for the licensing. SATT sublicensed to industrial partners. License revenues shared between SATT, patent owners and inventors. SATT will be shareholder of start-up.

9 Maturation Based on a laboratory proof of concept, to build a technological answer that could be transferred to industrial and commercial companies or be part of the creation of a start-up company »

14 Maturation Duration : 12 to 24 months Financing : 30 to 400 K€ to cover wages, surveys, subcontractors, equipments, consumables, reagents, etc. Carrying out the project (technology, IP, marketing, etc.) Prepare the Technology Transfer

15 Management The project management is run with a milestones/deliverables basis through a GO/NOGO principle

19 Public research incubators These incubators were created as part of the call for projects laid out in the July 1999 Numbering 30 in France Their mission is to facilitate the transfer of technologies developed in public research labs through the creation of private companies. They provide support and funding for external services (market studies or patent registration, as well as facilities and integration with their startup networks). They generally offer a funding allocation which is repayable if the project succeeds. 19

20 School and research institution incubators Aim : support their former students and researchers in entrepreneurial projects. These incubators may provide facilities and support and facilitate contact between alumnies. 20

21 Local economic development incubators Created by economic development agencies and competitive clusters, these incubators are targeted to a specific audience (e.g. networks for female entrepreneurs) 21

22 Private incubators From the outset, private incubators differ from other incubators in their commitment to project profitability. They generally operate by taking shares in the company’s capital, with the goal of turning a profit. This economic model suffered greatly from the burst of the dotcom bubble, and most of these incubators have either disappeared or been converted to seed funds or corporate consulting companies. 22

23 Other support structures Several other public, private, and associative agencies are also involved in supporting entrepreneurship.
