1 A Prayer of Confidence Luke 23:44-49 The prayers of Jesus Lord, give me the strength to endure Lord, give me the power to forgive Lord, give me power to bring unity Lord, I trust you

2 Luke 23 44 It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour, 45 for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.

3 Nature declared its sorrow Temple curtain was torn in two Jesus was beginning to complete his mission

4 Father, into your hands I commit my spirit. 46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.

5 “Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father…” His call is directed It is directed at the God Father: head and leader of the house His voice is loud and strong It is a voice of defiance and victory Not weakness or compliant

6 …into your hands I commit my spirit. “…into your hands I commit my spirit.” Your hands: He knew the hands They were hands of strength and control; hands that could be trusted

7 …into your hands I commit my spirit. “…into your hands I commit my spirit.” I: I choose, I volunteer, It is my will Commit: present, entrust, with confidence

8 …into your hands I commit my spirit. “…into your hands I commit my spirit.” My spirit: Breath, life and soul My being

9 Jesus expresses both confidence and victory in this very short prayer Lord I have confidence; I trust you Confidence you will take care of me Confidence I will not be rejected His prayer said: “We won”

10 So what? Jesus’ prayer teaches us… Know to whom you pray We Pray to Jesus Christ The one who paid the price Nailed to the cross Bled and died for us You have to know who you trust

11 So what? Jesus’ prayer teaches us… Reach out to God through Christ with confidence Jesus has our best interest at heart He loves us Jesus has all the information We win
