TEACH US TO PRAY

James 5:16 “The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.”

Jesus’ School of Prayer

Submitting to God’s Sovereignty

Matthew 6:10 “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

This is a prayer in which we acknowledge our utter dependence upon God.

His Kingdom is found anywhere His subjects acknowledge Him as King AND serve Him in loving obedience.

Praying “Your Kingdom Come” involves three dimensions:

1. A Personal Dimension.

For there to be a kingdom there has to be a King.
King Jesus.

For there to be a king there have to be subjects.
Us.

“Father, rule in my life. Jesus, be my King, and I will be your servant. Holy Spirit, work in me and through me to advance the Kingdom.”

If we start our prayer by focusing on the glory of God, then we are able to look at our earthly lives in a different way.

We are able to see that there is nothing better than a life lived under the direction of the King!

I challenge you to find any other way of life here on earth that matches a life lived in service to the King.

2. A Worldwide Dimension.

Jesus is telling us to pray and ask that God will send King Jesus in glory with His angels in flaming fire and gather His children from the four winds and establish His Kingdom on earth for the 1,000 year reign.

Matthew 13:41-43 “The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers, and throw them into the fiery furnace. In

that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth
that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.”

Matthew 25:31-34 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the

nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the

goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”

Revelation 5: “And they sang a new song, saying, ‘Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you

ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.’”

This is a prayer of longing by His kingdom citizens who realize that earth is NOT their home.

Philippians 3:20-21 “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform

our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.”

3. An Evangelistic One.

Jesus is telling His disciples then and now to pray Kingdom minded prayers.

We become more kingdom minded in our prayers when we become more Kingdom minded in our thoughts about the Kingdom.

Question of the day: How do we become more Kingdom minded in our prayers?

of the highest value, that is what we will give our
Whatever we find to be of the highest value, that is what we will give our life to possess.

Matt 13:44-46 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.”

my kingdom go Your Kingdom come!
