Life's like a road that you travel on When there's one day here and the next day gone Sometimes you bend, sometimes you stand Sometimes you turn your back to the wind There's a world outside every darkened door Where blues won't haunt you anymore Where the brave are free and lovers soar Come ride with me to the distant shore We won't hesitate, to break down the garden gate There's not much time left today
2
CHORUS Life is a highway I want to ride it all night long If you're going my way I want to drive it all night long
3
Through all these cities and all these towns It's in my blood and it's all around I love you now like I loved you then This is the road and these are the hands From Mozambique to those Memphis nights The Khyber Pass to Vancouver's lights Knock me down get back up again You're in my blood I'm not a lonely man There's no load I can't hold Road so rough, this I know I'll be there when the light comes in Tell 'em we're survivors
4
Life is a highway I want to ride it all night long If you're going my way I want to drive it all night long
5
There was a distance between you and I (between you and I) A misunderstanding once but now We look it in the eye There's no load that I can't hold Road so rough… this I know I'll be there when the light comes in Tell 'em we're survivors

A figure of speech is a tool that an author uses to help readers visualize what is happening in the story. When these figures of speech appear in writing, we say that the writer is using figurative language. This allows them to either make a comparison with something out of the ordinary or to show that there is a deeper meaning to the words on the page.

4 Main Types of Figurative Language
Simile A comparison which uses signal words “like” or “as” “Watching eyes shut tight Like doors to something sweeter where you rest.” - October Nights by Yellowcard Metaphor A direct comparison with no signal words “He’s the sunlight Shining down on me.” - Touch the Sky by Avril Lavigne
9
Hyperbole Personification An exaggeration or overstatement
“Now that I’m Miss Thing Now that I’m a zillionaire” - Right Through You by Alanis Morissette Personification Describing an animal or object as if it were human or had human qualities “And I looked around at all the eyes on the ground As the TV entertained itself.” - What Sarah Said by Death Cab for Cutie
