5. Identify PointEvidence (three piece of evidence a paragraph) Explain Kino can be considered heroic because he defies the pearl buyers offers'. "It is worth fifty thousand...you know it. You want to cheat me" (723). Kino could have accepted their offer, but he knew that the pearl buyers' were trying to cheat him, so he stood up to them for himself for the sake of his family, which no one had done before. "That is a great deal of money, more than he had ever seen" (722). Even though Kino and his family could have benefited from such a large sum of money, he would not settle. He knew he was being taken advantage of and would not let them which is a brave act on his part. "The pearl is like fool's gold"(721) and "this is not a pearl- it's a monstrosity" (722). The pearl buyers attempt to trick Kino was spurned, and though they tried to make him look like a fool, he refused to let this opportunity slip away.

7. Kino is heroic when he defies the Pearl buyers' offer. When Kino tried to sell his 'pearl of the world,' the dealers offered him a mere 1500 pesos and told him that, "The pearl is like fool's gold"(721) and "this is not a pearl- it's a monstrosity" (722). As the narrator stated, "That is a great deal of money, more than he had ever seen" (722). However, Kino chose to stand his ground, and not give in to their small offers for he knew the dealers were not being honest. Kino spurned the pearl buyers offers and declared, "It is worth fifty thousand...you know it. You want to cheat me" (723). Finally, Kino felt he had an opportunity to make a better life for his family and cashing the pearl in for a large sum of money was the only way Kino could change his life. Kino displays a great deal of heroism here because he had the courage to do what none of his people could do in the past. While he acted on behalf of his family and himself, many of Kino's people could have profited from his bravery. Kino stood up for himself and defied the pearl buyers low offer for his 'pearl of the world.' Sample Body Paragraph
