7. Activities: Group 1 – Watch the cartoon clip of Elizabeth I with Drake and Rayleigh. Then cut out the appropriate quotes she might have used when speaking to Drake before he set sail to circumnavigate the world. Stick them onto your worksheet. Group 2 – Using your own ideas, and the historical facts about Elizabeth I, write the reasons why she encouraged exploration onto your worksheet under ‘personal’ and ‘for England’. Use the pictures of Elizabeth thinking and giving a speech to help you. Group 3 – Same as Group 2 but write a monologue of Elizabeth’s personal reasons and a speech for her ‘for England’ reasons. Remember to organise your work into paragraphs.
