Organization for Radio Stanadardization : Organization related to Radio Standard

3 Telecommunications Technology Association 29/APRIL/2003GSC-8, OTTAWASlide 3 2. Major Radio Standards since RAST-10 1) Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability (WIPI) the middleware providing the standard API for heterogeneous wireless internet application in mobile communications. 2) Numeric Access System for Wireless Internet (WINC) using simple numbers instead of complex URLs when logging on to wireless web contents 3) I/O Connection Interface for Digital Cellular Phone defines new 24 pin I/F for Cellular Phone (800MHz&1.8GHz) providing functions for the recharging batteries and digital connection. 4) Digital CATV the digital CATV interface specifications for the digital CATV service. 5) Application I/F for Electronic Toll Collection Systems DSRC (Dedicated Short-Range Communication) RF protocol for the ETC systems. 3

WIPI Standard (Continued) WIPI specification : freely open to all interested Parties WIPI is now being upgraded by the related bodies (research institutes, venders, telecommunications operators and implementers). Interoperability Testing : - TTA certifies the WIPI applications in Korea - Certification has been done for interoperability The Future of WIPI Next Generation - Expansion of rich API set for MM contents & applications - Platform for Smart phone as embedded software

6 Telecommunications Technology Association 29/APRIL/2003GSC-8, OTTAWASlide 6 4. WINC(Wireless Internet Numbers for Contents) Merit of WINC –Simple, quick and direct way to access any mobile web contents using numeric keyword –No need to type complex URLs HistoryHistory –March 7 2002 : Contract of WINC(KRNIC, SKT, KTF, LG) –April 15 2002 : Test service of WINC –June 1 2002 : Start-up WINC service –July 2 2002 : Start-up real-time registration and formal WINC Service –Nov. 15 2002 : Start-up additional service (content naming and its searching)

7 Telecommunications Technology Association 29/APRIL/2003GSC-8, OTTAWASlide 7 4. WINC (Continued) Access Number FormatAccess Number Format –Assigned Number Assigned by domain name Generated by cellular keypad which is proposed by ITU-T E.161 i.e., Korea = 56732, yahoo = 92466, nic = 642 –Identifier “#” is used as Identifier –Unique Number chosen freely by registrant 642# 4500 Assigned NumberIdentifier Unique Number 2 ABC13 DEF 4 GHI5 JKL 6 MNO 7 PQRS8 TUV9 WXYZ 0 Keypad of ITU-T E.161

8 Telecommunications Technology Association 29/APRIL/2003GSC-8, OTTAWASlide 8 5. (2.3GHz) Wireless Potable Internet O Wide-area Wireless Internet  WLAN (for small area) O The Korea Government has announced plans to re-allocate the 2.3 GHz spectrum to a new wireless portable internet service in December 6, 2002. O Since TTA do not have the industry standards for wireless portable internet, TTA members has requested the preparation of the standard to TTA Secretariat. O TTA CC consented to compose a new Project Group of Wireless Portable Internet for developing the new standard in April 2003.
