2 The South African Council for the Architectural Profession
SACAP is the regulatory authority for the architectural profession, established under the Architectural Profession Act 44 of 2000 Architectural professionals are required by law to be registered with SACAP, and once registered they are accountable to SACAP in terms of providing services to the public Registered persons have a responsibility to practice in a professional and ethical manner, both for the benefit of the public and the profession as a whole governed by the Scope of Conduct, B.N 154 of 2009

4 SACAP’s MANDATE Protect members of the public by regulating the profession Take steps to ensure that public health and safety is not prejudiced through provision of architectural services. Ensuring that the Public is aware of their rights with respect to the provision of architectural services. Ensuring that Registered Persons (RP’s) are aware of the importance of protecting the environment. Regulating architectural education in South Africa. Registering and maintaining an up-to-date database of all architectural professionals and candidates. To maintain the international best practice standard with respect to the quality of service provided by the architectural professionals. Identify, isolate and classify work that may be performed by Registered Persons.

12 THE REGISTRATION PROCESS

13 REGISTRATIONS SACAP has 8919 active members on its database.
The total number is the combination of all categories; Candidates and Professionals in Draughtsperson, Technologist, Senior Technologist and Architect. All categories pay an annual fees per year. SACAP suspends membership of the Registered Persons (RPs) for non-compliance in terms of sec 20 of the Act. All suspended RPs are responsible for the re-registration after being suspended. There is a penalty fee for re-registration.

14 Professional Development Unit

15 REGISTRATION ON YM SACAP is now an online system which is called Your Membership (YM). YM enables all RPs to register and upload all necessary and relevant document online. YM is an interactive system between SACAP RPs and the employees. SACAP will not be accepting any paper going forward to encourage paperless processes. We are also on social networks: FB Page, Sacapsa and twitter handle: sacapsa.
