Employment Opportunities Many food scientists work for food manufacturers to produce, process, preserve, and package food products. Clinical Dietitians often work in hospitals, prisons or nursing homes to coordinate the medical and nutritional needs of patients Community Dietitians work with clubs, clinics, etc to teach the public about nutrition, food shopping and preparation skills Management Dietitians direct the food service programs, in hospitals, prisons and schools Professional who have writing skills may work with the media directly to author cookbooks, textbooks, or write articles for magazines

Entrepreneurial Opportunities Many offer private consulting to businesses, government agencies, hospitals, nursing homes, colleges, airlines and prisons Advantages -flexibility of work schedules and tax benefits Disadvantages – less benefits and less regular income

Entry- Level Jobs High school diploma may land you a job in – The food service industry –The food transport industry –The grocery store

Mid- Level Jobs A 2 year associates degree at a community college may land you a job –In food service supervision –In research labs

Professional – Level Jobs A bachelor of science (4 year) degree would prepare you for –Food scientist –Dietician You may need to also earn a Masters or PhD in your field. You need to meet the standards of the American Dietetic Association
