Duties D eveloping manmade fibers and quality assessing natural fibers; S pinning fibers into yarn, and knitting or weaving yarn into fabrics; P roducing nonwoven materials; identifying the latest fabric trends, developments and innovations; O verseeing the dyeing, printing and finishing processes; E nsuring quality in areas such as strength, durability, colorfastness, and water and chemical resistance; A dvising commercial colleagues on technical aspects of the business;

4. Education N eed a degree in a subject such as: textile technology textile science materials science or technology chemical or physical sciences production or manufacturing engineering.

7. Salary S tarting for assistant or junior positions: £16,000 - £18,000. F or technologists with a few years’ experience: £25,000 - £35,000. F or those with management research development responsibilities: £40,000 - £50,000.
