3.  In response to the 9.0 magnitude earthquake that struck of the northeast coast of Japan at 2:46 p.m Japanese time  400 hundred people tried to escape on a cruse ship and a bullet train have gone missing  600 + dead  500 missing

4.  At least 785 people confirmed dead in cities such as Kesennuma, Higashimatsubara and Sendai, but local authorities fear more than 10,000 people may have died in the prefecture alone.  Around 2,000 bodies found on two shores, including those in the town of Minamisanriku and Ishinomaki City.  At least 574 people confirmed dead, including those in Ofunato and Rikuzentakata cities.

6. TThousands of troops, 300 planes and 40 ships have been reportedly mobilised by the Japanese government following Friday's catastrophic disaster, amid fears that more than a thousand people have perished.

7.  Japan has declared a “nuclear emergency” at an atomic plant north of Tokyo after cooling systems failed  Naoto Kan, prime minister, stressed that no radiation had leaked from the Fukushima Daiichi facility’s six reactors. But residents living within 3km of the plant were being evacuated by the military, and those within 10km told to stay in their homes.

8. AA massive explosion has struck a Japanese nuclear power plant after Friday's devastating earthquake. AA huge pall of smoke was seen coming from the plant at Fukushima and several workers were injured. JJapanese officials fear a meltdown at one of the plant's reactors after radioactive material was detected outside it.
