120 guided learning hours (equivalent to a GCSE). Level 1 is equivalent to GCSE grade D. Level 2 is equivalent to GCSE grades A*-C.

4 units, each worth 25% of the final grade: 25% external assessment. Exam produced and marked by Edexcel. 75% internal assessment. Assignment tasks designed and marked by teaching staff.

You will: Explore human growth and development across the life stages. Investigate factors that affect human growth and development. Assessment: 1 hour exam, worth 50 marks. Will consist of short and long answer questions, with an opportunity for extended writing.

You will: Explore the care values that underpin current practice in health and social care. Investigate ways of empowering individuals who use health and social care services. Assessment: Internally assessed.

You will: Investigate different forms of communication. Investigate barriers to communication in health and social care. Explore how to communicate effectively in health and social care. Assessment: Internally assessed.

You will: Explore the effects of balanced and unbalanced diets on the health and wellbeing of individuals. Understand the nutritional needs of individuals at different life stages. Understand the specific dietary needs and preferences of individuals. Assessment: Internally assessed.

It is vital that students choose a health and social care placement for the Year 10 work experience.

Achievement at a particular level provides a suitable foundation for further study within the sector at the next level. For example, students achieving at Level 2, can progress onto the BTEC L3 Nationals in Health and Social Care course.
