GGuide signs are essential to guide drivers along streets and highways, to inform them of interesting routes, to direct them to cities, towns, villages, or other important destinations, to identify nearby rivers and streams, parks, forests, and historical sites, and generally to give such information as will help them along their way in the most simple, direct manner possible.
15
How the Interstates are Numbered The Interstate Highway numbering system was established in 1957. The Interstate route marker is the familiar red, white, and blue shield with the word “Interstate,” the state name, and the route number.
16
Routes running north and south have odd numbers, such as I-29. The lowest numbers are in the west, such as I-5 along the west coast. The highest numbers are in the east, such as I-95.
17
East and west routes have even numbers. The lowest numbers are in the south, such as I-10 along the southern border. The higher numbers are in the north, such as I-94 along the northern border.
18
THE U.S. HIGHWAY SYSTEM IS NUMBER JUST LIKE THE INTERSTATE SYSTEM. EVEN NUMBERED ROADS GO EAST AND WEST. ODD NUMBERED ROADS GO NORTH AND SOUTH.
19
SSTATE ROUTES ARE NUMBER THE SAME WAY.
