The Actor

“To be, or not to be” An actor is an entertainer. He must take on the role of a character from a script and bring them to life. A successful actor will make you believe they are the character they are portraying (as opposed to an actor trying to be that character) and everything they say is natural and their feelings are sincere.

“Don’t quit your day job” Most actors—unless they become famous—can’t live off what they earn from their acting careers alone. They must also maintain another job.

“Don’t call us, we’ll call you” Acting isn’t a very stable job. You could be a lead in a play one day and without a part the next. Many actors experience a play or movie that is a “flop” which ruins their career— momentarily at least.

“You’ve got the skills…” High school level of education Some training and experience in acting Skills needed in: Reading Writing Speaking Listening

“All in due time” It takes a while to break into the business but, its worth it if you love to act. It can be a rewarding experience and very fun to follow through with. A note of caution: Success can leave as fast as it came.

“Location, Location, Location” Where you live is important for this career. You wont break through to the business by staying in a small coastal town— you need to go to the heart of the movie industry: Hollywood!

“I’m not crazy…I’m just a little unwell right now” From what you’ve heard about the unstable and unpredictable acting career, you are probably wondering ‘What crazy psycho would actually want to be in this profession?’ Is it the lure of fame? The fortune possible? The attention? No. Its none of those. I’d do it for free every day for the rest of my life if I could because I love acting. It’s the simple activity that keeps me fueled throughout the day and if I could have any career possible—it would be acting.

The End… Thank you—thank you very much!
