Service Tracking Service Tracking on eCST is meant as a place for school personnel to document the services they provide for students – Allows educator to safely document “services” provided to students to support their academic and social success – Focuses on the service you provide for the student as his/her teacher rather than the student’s actions/behavior

Some General DO’s and DON’T’s DO’s Focus on the service not the behavior (make sure there is a service and more emphasis on it) State fact rather than opinion Factual information related by someone should be referenced to that person (“Mom informed me that….”) Use confidential button when appropriate Give yourself time to cool down before you service track, especially after incidents DON’T’s Mention other students by name Mention specific medical or other information protected by FERPA Mention diagnostic “opinions” (e.g. you believe that the student is ADD or has a behavior disorder) Explain every detail of the incident Extrapolate what we think should happen based on student profile (“Student is homeless so I think…”

SpEd DON’T’s (In addition to General DON’Ts) Mentions specific medical or other information protected by FERPA including disabilities for which the student is receiving SpEd services ARD meeting minutes, discussion, and results Specific disability

What about medical or other information that parents provide? EXAMPLE: While speaking with a parent about their son not turning in work, the parent informs you that their son is beginning to take meds for ADD. – “Spoke to parent regarding Enrique not turning in homework. I told her that when I asked Enrique about his homework, he said he forgot it. At this point, Enrique’s mother informed me that he was starting to take meds.”

Service Tracking Flip Inappropriate Mary had only a few answers correct on today’s math fluency check. She doesn’t know basic multiplication facts and is failing math. She would do better with one to one assistance. Appropriate Mary has been struggling with multiplication facts. During fluency checks I have begun giving her less problems, focusing on the facts she knows. If she continues to have trouble I will bring her to our problem solving team.

Service Tracking Flip Inappropriate Jenny was throwing things at Courtney all hour. I asked her many times to stop- she gave me her usual dirty looks. She got louder and more annoying as time passed. She also threw school property and deserves a referral. Appropriate Jenny was having a difficult time getting along with one of her peers, I redirected her several times and made a phone call home.

Ultimately… Service Tracking is a way for you to demonstrate that you are… – …consistently providing support for the student academically – …consistently providing positive behavior support for the student – …consistently maintaining communication with the student’s parents/guardian, counselor, AP, teachers, etc.
