Health agents may also sell Medigap insurance or Medicare Advantage insurance to seniors, long- term and short-term disability, long-term care insurance, dental and visual insurance and so- called "dread disease" policies.

4 Benefits Brokers -What insurances do they offer? (Health, Dental, Disability, Life, Other?) -Do they have a specialty? -What companies do they work with? -How do they get paid? (Invoice or commission rolled into services) -Do they assign someone to your account?

8 Accessing Employee Loyalty: Benefits, Recognition & Common Sense AFLAC -Can offer products to individuals and companies -Employees pay 100% of the premiums -Employer collects payroll deductions and pays the bill monthly -Offer Disability income plans (the duck!) -Offer Accident, Cancer Care, and Dental plans **To start program, all employees may have to take at least one service

9 Accessing Employee Loyalty: Benefits, Recognition & Common Sense Retirement Plans  -Offered by major companies (TD Ameritrade, Fidelity, Northwestern Mutual) -Matched plans often require that the 100% of the match be deposited even if the employees don’t use it all -Can have minimal fees and easy on line administration

10 Accessing Employee Loyalty: Benefits, Recognition & Common Sense Life Insurance -Often packaged with other services (STD/LTD, AFLAC) - Term Life (pay in and only receive benefits if death occurs) -Whole Life (pay in and can cash out or borrow against it) -Cheap if purchased below age 35

12 Professional Development - AKA: an investment in people’s potential  -Attendance at Conferences, Trade Shows and other educational events  -Courses for software and hardware used in the organization  -Assistance for employees persuing advanced degrees (if it benefits your organization)

13 OTHER IDEAS -FLEX Time (giving employees a set amount of time off which can be used any way they need) -FLEX Schedule (let employees shift their hours occasionally around organizational activities) -Birthday is a Day OFF! -Low Cost Outings (Do you have an ice cream stand near you? A mini golf course? A movie theatre?) -In House Retreat – Encourage all employees to eat lunch or dinner together

14 RECOGNITION  -Look employees in the eye and use positive reinforcement when speaking to them - Make sure it is REAL. Send a note or an email to an employee thanking them when they stay late to help with a project, fix a problem, etc. (put a copy in their file) -Treat employees as people first (How you treat them can affect how they treat the people in your community)

15 RECOGNITION  -When there’s a problem, let employees come up with an idea to solve it and if its sound, let them TRY it. - Give employees the opportunity to weigh in on equipment purchases before they are made -Let responsible employees make purchases on behalf of the organization (blank DVD’s, office supplies, etc. on a budget) -Lead by example (do as you want them to do)

16 Don’t forget to RECOGNIZE employees for their contributions… And maybe they will recognize yours!
