1 The Stations of the Cross “Behold the wood of the Cross, on which hung the salvation of the world. Come let us worship.” Liturgy for Good Friday

2 I. Jesus is condemned to death Pilate had Jesus brought out. “Here is your king,” he said to the crowd. But they shouted, “Away with him, crucify him!”. So at that, Pilate handed him over to be crucified.

3 Ii. Jesus RECEIVES THE CROSS Faithful Cross! Above all other, one and only noble Tree! None in foliage, none in blossom, none in fruit thy peers may be; Sweetest wood and sweetest iron! Sweetest Weight is hung on thee!

4 III. Jesus Falls the First Time “For to his angels, God has given a command: To guard you in all of your ways; upon their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.” (Psalm 91)

5 IV. Jesus Meets his Mother Simeon said to Mary, “This child is destined to be the cause of the rise and fall of many in Israel, and a sword shall pierce your own heart too.”

6 V. Simon of Cyrene carries the Cross “Gentle Jesus, mighty Spirit, come inflame our hearts anew, We may all your joy inherit, if we bear the cross with you.”

7 VI. Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus “In so far as you did this to the least of my brothers, you did it to me.”

8 VII. Jesus falls the second time “Come to me, All you who are Heavily burdened, And I will give you Rest for your souls.”

9 VIII. Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem A large crowd of people followed Jesus, including many women who mourned and lamented him. Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep instead for yourselves and for your children.”

10 IX. Jesus falls the third time He has broken my teeth with gravel, pressed my face in the dust; My soul is deprived of peace, I have forgotten what happiness is.

11 X. Jesus is stripped of his garments “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either.”

12 XI. Jesus is nailed to the Cross They will look upon the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child.

13 XII. Jesus dies on the Cross “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”

14 XIII. Jesus’ body is taken down from the Cross After this, Joseph of Arimathaea, who was a disciple of Jesus, though a secret one because he was afraid of the Jews, asked Pilate to let him remove the body of Jesus. Pilate gave permission, so they came and took it away.

15 XIV. Jesus is laid in the tomb And Joseph bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud and laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock.
