Lamentations This book is written in the form of five poems which mourn the destruction of Jerusalem in 587 B.C. They are in alphabetical form, each verse beginning with a new letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

They flow from Jeremiah’s great love for the city of Jerusalem and the great mourning of its people. It also contains a message of trust in God and the need for repentance. It is used by Christians during Holy Week to recall the experience of Calvary and by Jews in remembrance of the events of 587 B.C.

Baruch He was the secretary to Jeremiah. The book has collection of miscellaneous writings on the law as divine Wisdom, repentance, idolatry and return from exile. Originated outside Jerusalem by Jewish communities who tried to put Jeremiah’s ideals into practice.
