Gospel Identity: Family Who you are determines what you do
5
Gospel = Good News!
7
It is one thing to understand the gospel. It is another thing to experience the gospel daily in way that changes us and becomes the source of my identity and security
8
Identity Who you are determines what you do

Matthew 28:16-20 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

John 1:12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14
Mark 1:9-11 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” 12 At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, 13 and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.
15
Satan’s greatest weapon is to cause us to forget our identity as dearly loved children of God with whom He is well pleased!
16
Idol
17
When something becomes so important to you that it drives your behavior and commands your emotions, you are worshipping it whether you admit it or not.
18
Trying to elevate yourself in God’s eyes is not driven by love; it’s driven by unbelief & self-protection.
19
God’s approval is the power that liberates us from sin, not a reward for having liberated ourselves!
20
Ephesians 2:8-10 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
21
Titus 2:11-12 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age.
22
Colossians 3:3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
23
God now sees me according to how Christ lived, not based on what kind of week I’ve had.
24
If the gospel has done its work, you crave God more than anything else in life—money, romance, health, fame—seeing His Kingdom advance in your life and others gives you more joy than anything you can own!
25
True Christianity is when you serve God to get nothing else but more of God
26
Gospel Confession 1.In Christ, there is nothing I can do that would make You love me more, and nothing I have done that makes You love me less. 2.Your presence and approval are all I need for everlasting joy. 3.As You have been to me, so I will be to others. 4.As I pray, I’ll measure Your compassion by the cross and Your power by the resurrection.

Ephesians 5:1-2 “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

Romans 12:4-6 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others….
38
Romans 12:9-13 9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
39
Romans 12:14-16 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
