Mood: The atmosphere that pervades a literary work that creates a certain emotion or feeling for the audience through the use of setting, themes, imagery, and word choice.
7
Each group will be assigned two stanzas to remix. Just like the movie trailers we watched, you will be changing certain aspects of The Raven (word choice, imagery, etc.) in order to give the reader a different mood. You can choose to make the new mood: ●Cheerful/Optimistic ●Violent ●Relaxed ●Comedic/Humorous -OR- ●Bitter Your Turn!
8
● You cannot change what the Raven says (Nevermore). ●You must follow the basic plot summary you wrote for your stanza. Minor changes in actions are okay, but making the narrator kill and eat the bird, for example, is definitely banned. He could certainly try, though. ●The lines you create must be of similar length to the original. Remember!

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. “ ’Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door Only this and nothing more.” Stanza #1 (Original-Bleakly Forlorn)

The narrator is reading in his home and, as he starts dozing off, he hears a noise at his door and assumes it to be a visitor knocking. Stanza #1 (Summary)

On an evening in the autumn, the sun had set on the horizon In my lap I held a tome of stories I had read many times before A wistful smile across my face, I began to drift among the memories Sweet memories of laugh and love carried me to slumber’s shore, till I was summoned back by a noise upon the door I shook myself awake and grinned, hoping to see a friend from time before. Stanza #1 (Remix-Sentimental)

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December; And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor. Eagerly I wished the morrow; — vainly I had sought to borrow From my books surcease of sorrow — sorrow for the lost Lenore — For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore — Nameless here for evermore. Stanza #2 (Original-Bleakly Forlorn)

As the narrator sits, he recalls how often he has gone to his books at night to distract him from losing someone he admired named Lenore. Stanza #2 (Summary)
16
As the book fell from my chair, a photo fell from under its pages A photo that brought to mind a charming winter holiday spent with a lovely maiden fair Frequently I had thought upon our meeting and our parting, Wishing somehow I could bring her back from a continent away, the fair Lenore. But till that day she came beside me, I had many mementos to keep me company on the dreamy nights. Stanza #2 (Remix-Sentimental)
