2 The Ancient Egyptians were one of the most important civilizations of the past. They were famous for Tombs, monuments, mummification and pyramids. The Ancient Egyptians lived along the banks of the River Nile. They lived around 5000 BC

3 The river Nile is in Egypt. The river Nile is 6000 kilometers long, the longest river in the world. The river Nile was a great source of food for example fish and sea food.

4 Akhet The flooding season. No farming was done at all this time of year, as all the fields were flooded. Many farmers worked for the pharaoh instead, building pyramids or temples. Peret The growing season. In October the floodwaters receded, leaving behind a layer of rich, black soil. This soil was then ploughed and seeded. Shemu The Harvesting Season The harvest season was the time when crops were cut and gathered. It was also the time to repair the canals ready for the next flood. How many seasons did they have? Egyptian farmers divided their year into three seasons, based on the cycles of the river Nile.

5 What crops did the farmers grow? The egyptians grew crops such as wheat, barley,veg, figs, melons, pomegranates corn, and vines How did they harvest corn? Reapers cut the ripe corn with wooden sickles women and children followed behind to collect any fallen ears of corn.

6 Hieroglyphs What did the Ancient Egyptians write on? Hieroglyphs were written on papyrus reed What did they use to write with? Pen and ink (a sharp reed) What were hieroglyphs? Holy writing How do we know how to translate them? This writing was uncovered by the Rosetta stone.Rosetta stone How many hieroglyphs were there? More than 700

7 Rich people wore jewellery Because we found bits of jewellery in the tombs. They wore linen cloths Because the linen is very thin and light We know how they built their homes Because there are mini models of what they wanted their homes to look like made with mud along the Nile river mixed with straw and pebbles. Archaeologists dug them up.
