Using the Rapid Test Kit Slide Set 3

Quickvue Rapid Influenza A and B Test Allows for rapid, qualitative detection of influenza type A and type B antigens Test results in about 10 minutes

Take out the Reagent Tube and Extraction Tube Reagent Tube –Reagent solution inside Extraction Tube –Buffer with detergent and reducing agents Reagent Tube Extraction Tube

Place extraction tube in a holder Make sure extraction tube is upright Take off rubber top. Extraction Tube

Twist top off the Reagent Tube and add the liquid contents from the Reagent Tube into the Extraction Tube Reagent Tube Extraction Tube

Gently swirl the Extraction Tube to ensure adequate mixing of the reagent.

After performing the NP/nasal swab, place the patient’s swab into the Extraction Tube

Gently press the head of the swab against the bottom and sides of the tube as you rotate/roll the swab three (3) times in the tube. Do this for up to one minute. This will ensure sufficient release of viral particles, if present, from the swab.

When REMOVING the swab… Press and rotate the swab against the inside of the extraction tube as you remove it. Again, this is done to ensure release of viral particles, if present. Dispose of the swab in a biohazard waste disposal.

Place the test strip in the Extraction Tube with the arrows pointing down.

Do not handle or move the test strip until the test is complete in 10 minutes. Results may appear earlier than 10 minutes.

How to Read the Rapid Test Strips

The Rapid Test Strip Quick reference guide section: This section of the test strip shows the tester how to read the results.  The blue line in the middle is the control (CCC).  A red line above the blue line means the test strip is positive for Influenza A (AAA).  A red line below the blue line means the test strip is positive for Influenza B (BBB). This section of the test strip is where the patient results will appear.

Example of Positive Rapid Test for Influenza A Blue (control) line Red line above the blue (control) line This rapid test strip shows the blue control line and a red line above the control line. This would be considered a positive rapid test for Influenza A.

Example of Positive Rapid Test for Influenza B Red line below the blue (control) line Blue (control) line This rapid test strip shows the blue control line and a red line below the control line. This would be considered a positive rapid test for Influenza B.

Example of Negative Rapid Influenza Test Blue (control) line This rapid test strip shows the blue control line but no red lines. This would be considered a negative rapid test for Influenza.
