Study cross talk, charge collection efficiency, etc. Plans for the future: Test before/after irradiation new generation of radiation hard modules. Take data in common runs with SCT and TRT. Dedicated 25ns beam runs in standalone and combined runs with ID. During the production test a sample of modules, before and after irradiation Request 3-7 weeks/year in standalone for 2001-2003 (J. Richardson)

ATLAS LHCC 28/11/00 A. Henriques/CERN 5 Main achievements in 2000: Performance of fully-irradiated pre-series detectors Large matrix scans with up to 10 modules tested simultaneousl With 25 ns beam: Timing studies, Pile-up, event reconstruction at high event rate, etc. ABCD3T module has been build and irradiated at the PS but not in time to be tested in H8. They are being tested now at KEK but without magnet nor angle scans. Plans for future: During the production test a sample of modules, before and after irradiation. Take data in common runs with Pixels and TRT. First use of realistic prototype back-end DAQ elements Dedicated 25ns beam runs in stand-alone and combined runs with ID. ATLAS LHCC 28/11/00 A. Henriques/CERN 6 TRT in H8 Main achievements: New electronics testes with 25 ns beam have demonstrated expected performance. Study a new version of DTMROC-chip. General grounding-shielding concept was validated Able to produce final specification for the Front-end chips Plans for the future: Validation of the pre-production and production front-end-electronics. Test a full barrel module Validation of back-end-electronics with 25 ns beam. Take data in common runs with Pixels and TRT. Request 3weeks/year in standalone for 2001-2003 (A. Romaniouk)

ATLAS LHCC 28/11/00 A. Henriques/CERN 7 LAr em barrel+EMEC in H6/H8 Achievements in 2000: Barrel: 2 runs for the barrel module 0 with modified motherboards. The first results on the uniformity scans performed at several energies have induced a small change on the electrodes design to cure part of the non uniformity observed. EMEC: 2 runs were cancelled because module 1 was delayed by new spacer design. Plans for the future: All the modules will be tested in the cold Barrel: calibrate in beam 2 modules in 2001, 2 in 2002 and 1 early 2003 over 32 production modules (16%), including uniformity and reproducibility studies. End-Cap: calibrate in beam 4-5 modules over 16 (25%). Combined runs: for Barrel and End-Cap em+hadronic calorimeters Request for 2001-2003: 4-6 weeks/year for Barrel and the same for EMEC combined runs: em barrel+Tiles in 2004 and EMEC+HEC+FCAL in 2003/2004 (L. Serin)
8
ATLAS LHCC 28/11/00 A. Henriques/CERN 8 HEC in H6 Main achievements in 2000: Continued module tests from the series production. Setup with 3 phi edges (6 modules in total) with reduced pion lateral shower leakage (~ 4%). Studies with particles (e, ), energy and position scans (6-200 GeV), comparison with MC. Plans for the future: HEC standalone: –Calibrate 30 production modules (12%) –All the modules will be tested in the cold Combined runs: –EMEC/HEC (eta~2.0) in the year 2001-2002 –EMEC/HEC/FCAL (eta~3.2) in 2003-2004 Request 6 weeks/year in standalone for 2001-2003 (P. Schacht)
9
ATLAS LHCC 28/11/00 A. Henriques/CERN 9 FCAL in H6 Plans for the future: In 2002 calibrate with electrons and pions 1 complete FCAL (3 modules). In 2003-2004 combined run with EMEC and HEC Beam requests: 10 weeks of beam in standalone in 2002 8 weeks of beam in combined mode in 2003-2004 (P. Loch)
10
ATLAS LHCC 28/11/00 A. Henriques/CERN 10 Tile calorimeter in H8 Main achievements in 2000: Could not start calibrating production modules (final electronics not available) Implementation of DAQ-1 system (improved the time for data taking by ~ factor 3) Readout engineering tests with 3 Production Modules: 1Barrel and 2 Extended Barrels Plans for the future: 2001-2003: –Calibrate in the beam 12% of modules (8 B+16 EB) in 3 periods/year –Long Term stability tests with module 0 –All the modules will be calibrated with Cesium source. Henriques/CERN 11 Muon chambers in H8/H6/GIF Main achievements in 2000: MDT’s: –Module-0 test not done mainly by delay of the front-end electronics. –Started mechanical installation to test 1 octant of the End-Cap (=>infrastructure changes, preliminary assembly of 10 m wide chamber support frames) –The test of components of the End-Cap alignment system has started. TGC’s: modules from the production line have been tested in GIF/X5. RPCs: module-0 chambers have been tested in GIF/X5. CSC’s: A module-0 chamber is expected to be tested in GIF in December 2000. Background studies in H6: Analysis of the data collected in 1998-1999 completed. The agreement with Fluka are remarkably good (better than 20% consistency). (S. Palestini)
12
ATLAS LHCC 28/11/00 A. Henriques/CERN 12 Muon Chambers in H8 and GIF Plans for the future: H8: In 2001 test of the End-Cap alignment system with one octant Test of module-0 chambers, equipped with new electronics.
