3. Aim To prepare healthcare professionals to manage and support people with Type 2 Diabetes during and after the change from oral agents to insulin. Outcomes on completion of course Discuss the indications for combination therapies (Oral hypoglycaemic agents and insulin) Identify the indications for the early initiation of treatments risk factors and their management. Revisit home blood glucose monitoring and how the patient can use results to manage their diabetes. Understand the role of other healthcare professionals in insulin initiation. Recognise the main types of insulin, their time-action profile, delivery devices and injection technique. Initiate and support patients’ adjustment of insulin doses, safely and effectively. Identify causes, signs and symptoms of hypoglycaemia and advise on appropriate prevention and treatment. Apply local and national guidelines to the care and management of people with Type2 Diabetes. Describe the implications on driving. Advise patients on managing illness.
