2 Born. Franklin was born in Boston on January 17, 1706. He was the tenth son of soap maker, Josiah Franklin. Benjamin's mother was Abiah Folger.

3 When he started. he would write letters at night and sign them with a name of a fictional widow named “silence dogwood” for his brothers newspaper.
