Water and Animals Today’s Goal: To learn about the importance of wetlands. To investigate the plants and animals that rely on wetlands for survival.

Water and Animals 1. Soil that is saturated or covered with water. 2. Plants that have adapted to living, at least part of the time, in water. There are two things that make an area “Wetlands.”

Water and Animals The stems and leaves of wetland plants trap soil that’s been washed away.

Water and Animals Wetlands help to prevent flooding because they can absorb a lot of storm water.

Water and Animals They also trap nutrients that are used by plants to help them grow.

Water and Animals Many animals find food and shelter in wetlands.
