MDG 8: A Global Partnership for Development Strong partnership between developed and developing countries is essential for achievement of the other 7 MDGs.This is of special significance to SI as its development projects are financed up to 70% by external resources. MDG 8 Targets: 8a: Develop further an open, rule-based, predictable, non- discriminatory trading and financial system 8b: Address special needs of least developed countries 8c: Address special needs of landlocked developing countries and small island developing States 8d: Deal comprehensively with debt problems of DCs 8e: Provide access to affordable essential drugs in DCs 8f: Make available benefits of new technologies

Aid Coordination and Management Tasks Ministry of Development Planning and Aid Coordination (MDPAC) is responsible for managing the development cooperation between Government and donor partners in Solomon Islands. MDPAC serves as the focal point and facilitator for aid coordination and is tasked to maximize the benefits of donor funds in realizing the country’s development goals MDPAC initiated ‘Strengthening Aid Coordination and Management Capacities Project’ funded by UNDP to improve efficiency and effectiveness of aid coordination and management in Solomon Is lands

DAD Implementation and Capacity Building Data collection and initial data entry/validation: Available data has been entered in pilot DAD module, with Synergy’s assistance, rolled out to stakeholders Data updating and designing/disseminating reports: MDPAC team is supporting development partners, and Line Ministries in data updating and validation Capacity building requirement and training program: Synergy expert conducted training of focal persons nominated by development partners and ministries, training program would be implemented as per plan

10. Viability and Sustainability Challenges Internet connectivity for a web-based system: DAD will be hosted at Synergy’s US office, an offline module will allow to view and update data, which can be synchronized when internet would be available Ownership and sustainability of DAD system: MDPAC will assume ownership and management, would build outreach, report preparation and system administration capacities (initial 3-years contract with Synergy’s provision on training and technical support) Linking of projects to sectoral KPIs and MDGs: Mapping of KPIs and MDG targets of each project would need extensive efforts, to take advantage of DAD’s capability to support M&E of these projects

11. Solomon Islands Government is utilizing DAD to Establish Ownership, Align and Harmonize donor resources to country priorities, Strengthen Accountability and Results-based framework for Achievement of the National Development Objectives
