17 And it came about when the priests came from the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD, 11 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD. (1 Kings 8:11-12).

18 Solomon’s Blessing Solomon’s Prayer 1 Kings 8:12-21 1 Kings 8:22-61 But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain You, how much less this house which I have built! (1 Kings 8:27).

20 Solomon’s Seven Requests 1 st Request8:31-32 2 nd Request8:33-34 3 rd Request8:35-36 4 th Request8:37-40 5 th Request8:41-43 6 th Request8:44-45 7 th Request8:46-51 Each of these requests is patterned after the warnings given in Leviticus 26 where God promises seven cycles of discipline upon Israel if they reject His word.

21 God’s Warning IF you or your sons shall turn away from following Me shall not keep My commandments & statutes go and serve other gods and worship them, THEN I will... Cut off Israel Israel will be a proverb & a byword This house will be ruined Everyone will be astonished (1 st Kings 9:6-9)

22 1 Kings 11:1-2 Now King Solomon loved many foreign women along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women, 2 from the nations concerning which the LORD had said to the sons of Israel, “You shall not associate with them, neither shall they associate with you, for they will surely turn your heart away after their gods.” Solomon held fast to these in love.

23 1 Kings 11:3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines, and his wives turned his heart away.

24 For it came about when Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart away after other gods; and his heart was not wholly devoted to the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father had been. 1 Kings 11:4

25 1 Kings 11:30-31 Then Ahijah took hold of the new cloak which was on him, and tore it into twelve pieces. And he said to Jeroboam, “Take for yourself ten pieces; for thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon and give you ten tribes.’”

26 1 Samuel 15 Samuel & Saul Saul tears Samuel’s robe and it is used as a picture of the kingdom being torn from Saul 1 Kings 11 Ahijah & Jeroboam Ahijah tears his robe and gives 10 pieces to Jeroboam to illustrate how the kingdom will be torn apart Jesus on the Cross The veil of the temple is torn from top to bottom to show the way to the kingdom of God has been opened Matthew 27 Mark 15 Luke 23

27 Spiritual Significance I Kings - The United Kingdom David/Bathsheba – God will set you up for a blessing. Can you stand to be blessed? Solomon – To have wisdom is not enough if you don’t apply it to everyday living in obedience to God (“the practical application of the preached word of God”). It is for this reason, that we need God’s wisdom (Jesus) and not our own to live a righteous life. Jeroboam – Knowing to do right and still disobeying God brings certain destruction. Rehoboam – Youthful wisdom that shuns the advice of elders can lead to bad decision-making. Ahijah – Each of us is a prophet who can warn others that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.
