HNC/D Administration and IT Intended Outcome of the QRT Paula White
3
QRT Intended Outcomes: In 2008 the QRT were charged with updating the HNC/D Administration and IT awards to include the following targets: Better exemplify standards Reduce the assessment load Increase flexibility of assessment Ensure DDA compliant Bring core skills in line with new standards Improve guidance on core skills
4
Better Exemplify Standards: Units with codes starting ‘F...’ now describe Outcomes in terms of Knowledge/Skills and Evidence Requirements –Knowledge/Skills list identifies what knowledge or what skill is involved –Evidence Requirements give clear description about what the candidate must be able to do to achieve the outcome Aim: clearer guidance to centre staff on standards candidates must achieve
5
Reduce Assessment Load 2 phase approach: –1 st Reviewed specific Units that had been identified as problematic –2 nd Reduce artificial barriers which were preventing assessments being completed across Outcomes/Units Aim: provide opportunities for integrated delivery and assessment
6
Increase flexibility of assessment What do we mean by flexible? –Unit Specifications no longer state the assessment method to be used –Centres able to identify methods Aim: allow centres to select most appropriate assessment methods for their candidates
7
Ensure DDA Compliant Once the above targets were addressed, this became much less complicated –Standards now clearly stated NOT method –Artificial barriers removed AIM: ensure that all candidates capable of achieving the identified standard are given equal opportunity to do so.
8
Core Skills Finally, Bring Core Skills in line with new standards Improve guidance on Core Skills –Every Unit Specification that was reviewed by the QRT was considered for all/any Core Skill element and whether it is embedded or being developed. AIM: provide a comprehensive mapping of Core Skills across the mandatory Units
