Activity – Reflection (Homework) Share with your group your thoughts and findings after viewing and responding to the Axe Angel commercial. Come up with a consensus to the following question - Did the commercial contradict the message of the one we saw in class? At this time, share with the class some of your responses.

Pre-Reading - Journal Entry What inspires you when you hear a speech? What makes one speaker more exciting than another? List the qualities of a good speech. (5 minutes) Share with your group your ideas. After everyone has spoken compile a list of the qualities you all believe make a good speech. (7-10 minutes) We will now do a round robin and each group with identify one quality. Keep in mind if a group has presented your quality you must provide a new one. We will go around the room until we have presented all qualities.

During Reading You will each get a copy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech 'I Have a Dream'. As you listen to the speech you are to highlight examples of ethos (green), pathos (yellow), and logos (pink).

After Reading Share with your group your findings. Discuss and respond to the following based on your number within your group: What was King's purpose in delivering this speech? (1&2) Was his speech effective, did it serve its purpose? How? Provide textual evidence. (3&4) Based on the list the class compiled on the qualities of a good speech, which ones does King exemplify in his speech.(1-4) We will now do a round robin and each group one response to one question. Keep in mind if a group has given your response you must provide a new one. We will go around the room until we have answered all three questions.
