7. Having Children The Medisave Maternity Package allows you to withdraw up to $450 of Medisave for the pre-delivery medical expenses for all your children. This is in addition to the amount of Medisave that can be used for delivery. Medisave Maternity Package Couples who have difficulties conceiving can use their Medisave to help reduce the out-of-pocket cost for treatment for Assisted Conception Procedures (ACP). From 17 Aug 2008, the Government will help to make Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART) Treatment more affordable by co- funding the treatment costs in public hospitals. 9. Raising and Caring for Children The Baby Bonus comprises a cash gift and a co-savings component. From 17 Aug 2008, the Baby Bonus cash gift and matching Government contribution through the CDA will be enhanced.

Raising and Caring for Children Enhancing the quality, affordability and accessibility of centre-based childcare –The Government will facilitate the development of about 200 new childcare centres to cater for 20,000 additional childcare places in the next five years. The new centres will be conveniently located in HDB estates and near public transport nodes. –The quality of childcare services will be raised through the introduction of an integrated curriculum framework and teacher- child ratio to ensure sufficient trained teachers. –Scholarships and bursaries for degree and diploma programmes respectively will be introduced for deserving pre-school teachers in childcare centres.

Raising and Caring for Children Centre-Based Infant Care and Childcare Subsidy From 17 Aug 2008, the infant care subsidy will be increased from $400 to a maximum of $600 per month to help parents offset the cost of centre-based care. The subsidy applies to all Singaporean children regardless of child order. The childcare subsidy will be increased from $150 to a maximum of $300 per month. 13. Work-Life Support Paid Maternity Leave Maternity leave will be extended from 12 to 16 weeks for all Singaporean births on or after 17 Aug 2008. Employers are encouraged to grant the extended maternity leave from 17 Aug 2008 and will be required to do so upon legislation. For the first two confinements, the first eight weeks of maternity leave will continue to be employer-paid. The last eight weeks will be funded by the Government (capped at $20,000 per confinement, including CPF contributions). For the third and subsequent confinements, the full 16 weeks will be funded by the Government (capped at $40,000 per confinement, including CPF contributions). The last eight weeks of maternity leave can be taken flexibly over a period of 12 months from the date of the confinement if there is mutual agreement between the employer and the employee.

Work-Life Support Paid Childcare Leave From 17 Aug 2008, paid childcare leave will be extended from two to six days per year for working parents with any Singaporean child under the age of seven, regardless of the number of qualifying children. The first three days will be employer-paid and the last three days government-paid (capped at $500 per day including CPF contributions).

15. Work-Life Support New Infant care Leave From 17 Aug 2008, a working parent will be able to have six days of unpaid infant care leave if he or she has a Singaporean child under the age of two, regardless of the number of qualifying children.
