9. Questions & Answers Clients will receive their household cards at the end of July 2009 and they will be effective August 1, 2009. This is a one- time issuance unless special circumstances require reissuance of a card. 1. When will the new card be issued and effective?

10. Questions & Answers At each health care appointment, the client shows the ID card to the provider. The provider then verifies Medicaid eligibility via the telephone or their computer. 2. Does this mean that eligibility rules have changed? No, the eligibility rules have not changed. 3. How does the client use the card?

11. Questions & Answers Just like they do now with private insurance ID cards. They can get the information by telephone or their computer. All Medicaid providers have three ways to check on eligibility: the Medicaid Inquiry and NMES telephone lines and through the Internet. This information is on the Medicaid ID card. 4. How does the provider check for eligibility now that the new Medicaid ID card doesn’t show the current eligibility information on it?

13. Questions & Answers As always, if eligibility for Medicaid is going to change, they receive the information through a notice in the mail. If they want to check eligibility any time of any day, there is a toll- free number they can call (800-383- 4278). 6. How will clients know if they are eligible?

14. Questions & Answers They call their caseworker to request another card. A duplicate will be sent in a couple of days. In the interim, the provider can determine eligibility based on the client’s name, Medicaid ID number and date of birth. 7. What happens if the client loses their Medicaid ID card?
