SWBAT… solve two step equations Agenda 1. Warm-up & common mistakes (10 min) 2. Quiz (5 min) 3. Binder Check (15 min) 4. Two-step equations (15 min) Warm-Up: Which expression is equivalent to 2x + 3y − 5x 2 − 10y + 7x 2 ? 1. 4x 2 − 7y 2. 2x 2 + 2x − 7y 3. 2x 2 − 5xy 4. 2x + 13y + 12x 2 HW#3: Two-Step Equations Fri, 10/29/10
2
Before the quiz… common mistakes 1. When CLT, don’t forget about the sign in front of the variable 2. (-1) 2 1. (-1) 2 = (-1)(-1) = 1 2. Use parenthesis! 3. Always simplify: -9 – 5 = -14 4. +- 5. - - 6. Name the three terms 1. Name three terms. For example, n 2, 8n, 7
3
Binder Check 1. Take out your binders and place your binder evaluation sheet on the binder 2. Exchange binders with the person next to you
4
Homework 1. TRY hw#3: there are examples already done for you!!!! 2. FOLLOW THE EXAMPLES!!! You can do it!
5
SWBAT…solve two-step equations Agenda 1. Solving equations on poster board (15 min) 2. Gallery walk (30 min) Warm-Up. 1.) On your poster, solve your equation. Show all work (but you already knew that!) 1. Write out the steps as you solve the problem 2. CHECK your answer HW#3-Solving Algebraic Equations – Two Step (solve and check each equation) Mon, 11/4/10
6
Gallery Walk Instructions The person in your group whose birthday is closest to today’s date (November 1) will first stay with your poster to explain how you solved the equation The other person will be rotating to the different stations with your hw#3 When I say rotate (after 3-4 minutes) you will rotate clockwise to the next poster After 3 rotations, you and your partner will switch
7
SWBAT… solve multi-step equations QUIZ: Solve and check each equation: 1.) 2a – 5 = 7 2.) 7 – w = -4 3.) EC: Solve for h: A = 2πr2 + 2πrh Tues, 11/5/10
8
SWBAT…evaluate expressions, CLT, distributive property and two-step eqns Agenda 1. WU (5 min) 2. White board practice – equations (40 min) Warm-Up. Grab a white board, marker, eraser Do practice problems on the back of agenda Wed, 11/6/10
9
Directions: On your tablets, you will be solving equations. You will have 1-3 minutes to solve each problem (SHOW YOUR WORK – ALL STEPS!) When you hear the timer go off, show me your tablets.
