Compound Subjects and Compound Verbs Today’s Learning Objective: I will be able to identify a conjunction, a compound subject, and a compound predicate in a sentence.

Coordinating Conjunctions A COORDINATING CONJUNCTION connects similar words or groups of words (i.e nouns and verbs). Coordinating conjunctions are words that help to join two separate parts of a sentence together. We can remember all the coordinating conjunctions with the acronym FANBOYS. Compound Subjects The COMPOUND SUBJECT is two or more subjects (i.e. nouns or pronouns) that have the same verb and are joined by a conjunction such as and or or. The multiple nouns in compound subjects are always joined together by conjunctions. EXAMPLE: My FRIENDS AND I went to Prep Fiesta yesterday.

Compound verbs A COMPOUND VERB is two or more verbs that have the same subject and are joined by the conjunction such as and or or. The multiple verbs in compound predicates are always joined together by conjunctions. EXAMPLE: We LAUGHED, DANCED, AND ATE all day long!

More Examples DIRECTIONS: If the sentence has a compound subject, identify all the simple subjects in the sentence. Lets put the new knowledge to work!! Write TWO descriptive sentences. One sentence has to include a compound subject and the second sentence has to include a compound verb.
