Guided Notes For Chapter 8 – 1 Changing Earth’s Surface
Wearing Down and Building Up What processes wear down and build up Earth’s surface?
2
Erosion – The process by which natural forces move weathered rock from one place to another.
4
Sediment is the material moved by erosion
Sediment is the material moved by erosion. Weathering and erosion produce sediment. .
5
Deposition – The area where sediment is laid or deposited
Deposition – The area where sediment is laid or deposited. Deposition changes the shape of land.
6
Weathering, Erosion & Deposition act together to wear down and build up Earth’s surface.
7
Mass Movement – Gravity is the force pulling rocks and other materials downhill.
Four types of Mass Movement: LANDSLIDES MUDSLIDES SLUMP CREEP
8
Landslide – (The most destructive) When rock and soil move quickly down a steep slope.
