C-Notes: Topic: Summary Writing EQ: What does a summary entail? When you summarize an article: Highlight its main points and arguments without writing down every single detail. (only the necessary facts) A summary should answer two questions: 1.What is the most important idea in this reading? 2.What information supports this idea?

The summary needs to be approximately 1/3 the length of the original text. Your summary must include the following: Author’s name Title of article Overview of topic A statement of the author’s main idea Body sentences that communicate the most important ideas, in your own words (As many as needed) Conclude by reminding your reader of the main points of the article IMPORTANT! Topic Sentence/Paragraph
