2 Challenges Prior to Training 1.Football dominating the playground 2.Older children dominating the playground 3.Children don’t know how to use playground markings 4.No shaded area for chill 5.Classroom windows in danger from balls 6.Engaging children during wet play 7.MDS being pulled in different directions 8.Not enough equipment 9.Children do not know how to use some of the equipment

3 Strategies 1.Linking in with the already established peer mentoring system within the school 2.Application forms from the CD used to select Buddies 3.Student council used to select children to become buddies 4.Buddies trained by Year 6 teacher 5.Buddy trolley and bibs purchased 6.Buddy board placed in corridor leading to playground 7.Zoning the playground 8.Buddies trained on how to use school equipment 9.Skipping zone run for children to practice skipping before completing Jump Rope for Heart and raising money for more playground equipment and markings 10.Chill activities used in wet play times to occupy children 11.In wet play - competition using blank templates, every month/term a child who has designed the best game gets it laminated and included in the In The Zone pack 12.Zone the playground so that balls are not aiming towards windows 13.Parasols and benches bought for chill out area 14.Chill out area fenced off

4 The Difference 1.More structured games 2.More children active during playtimes 3.Football not dominating as children have other things to do 4.Children are developing fundamental movement skills 5.Children are working towards Jump Rope for Heart 6.MDS are now able to supervise the playground 7.Buddy’s are responsible for equipment and games run in the zones 8.Buddy’s will be training up Year 5 children to take their place next year
