A growing need There is an enormous need for Information Assurance/Information Security personal. Particularly in MD/DC/VA geographic area. U.S. Bureau of Labor projects job growth in this area to be around 50% from 2004 to 2014.

What you need A strong academic background. It’s not just for engineers and computer geeks. Liberal Arts students need apply. Aptitude for the work Technical skills If you are working for the Government or with the Government you will need a security clearance

Education Associates degree is typically the minimum for systems administrators A BA or a BS for an analyst, engineer or manager a MS or MA for a director A PHD for a professor or researcher

Aptitude Strong conceptual and analytic skills Ability to operate within a team Ability to multi task Strong project management skills Excellent oral, written and presentation skills Demonstrate interpersonal and conflict management skills

Technical Aptitude The best way to demonstrate your technical aptitude is to acquire a (ISC)2 certification. These certifications demonstrate your working knowledge and your commitment to the IS field.

Security Clearance In order for you to participate in IS work with or for the government you must have a security clearance. This is a thorough vetting process that requires a background check and a polygraph test.

Salaries With an education, certification and a security clearance you can expect to make a very comfortable living IS Administrators$75,000 Security Analyst$80,000 IS Manager$100,000 CISO$150,000

Future These jobs are in great demand and you can be an enormous asset to the security of the Country as well as protecting the resources of people in their everyday transactions. Much of the USA’s and the world’s economy is tied to Information Security. You can be part it!
