3. French & Indian War debt tax – England told colonists to pay for the French and Indian War. ( William Pitt- tax)

9. Declaratory Acts – declares England has the right to make decisions for the colonies in all cases. Gets rid of Stamp Act.

10. Townshend Acts –tax on glass, paper, lead, tea – things the colonist couldn’t make themselves

The Liberty Affair – happened in Boston, Mass. British officials seized John Hancock's ship and said he used it for smuggling. One event that unites colonist against British.

Britain sends 2 regiments of troops to Boston because they think colonist are on brink of rebellion. They camp in the center of town (Boston).

Colonists are angry – think Britain has sent army to occupy their town.

Tea Act – 1773 Parliament allows East India Company the right to ship tea to colonies w/o paying most of taxes usually would have to pay. Their tea was now the cheapest in the colonies. Colonist said that wasn’t fair.

Boston Tea Party – 4 ships carry tea to Philadelphia, New York, Boston, & Charles Town Philadelphia & New York ships forced to turn back Charles Town ship tea was seized & stored Boston ship ordered unloaded – Sons of Liberty disguised as Indians threw 342 chest overboard.

Coercive Acts – 1774 harsh, intended to punish colonists Closed Boston Harbor until colonist paid for ruined tea Took away certain rights of Mass. Colonists No town meetings Had to shelter soldiers in their homes
