The West Midlands overall participation rate has increased from 81% in 2006/7, to 86.5% in 2007/08 to 91.1% in 2008/9. 2008/9 participation in the West Midlands was higher for Reception (92.6%) than Year 6 children (89.6%). 2008/9 target participation was 85% In the following slides PCTs significantly different to the England average are highlighted with a ring.

Data | Knowledge | Intelligence | Health Summary Participation has increased for the West Midlands overall, however 3 PCTs did not meet the 85% target for Year 6 Data quality – still some issues, particularly height rounding Children in Reception and Year 6 in the West Midlands are less likely to be a healthy weight than the England average. The West Midlands remains worse than the England average for both obesity and underweight in both year groups.

Data | Knowledge | Intelligence | Health Summary Obesity prevalence is high in every PCT in the West Midlands compared to the UK1990 standard Obesity is higher than the England average in several PCTs and very few PCTs have rate better than the national average Underweight prevalence is also high compared to England average, however it is better than the UK1990 standard There are differences across the West Midlands in underweight and obesity prevalences by deprivation, area classification and ethnicity (these are likely to be interrelated)
