4 HE Centres – key features Must be viable and sustainable Range of models – Adding numbers to existing provision with minimal capital – Designation of existing space or building – A new building – Multiple sites Often part of another initiative with multiple funders Can take a number of years to develop proposals

11 HEFCE’s role Clarify the approach to funding Lead a debate about the process for creating HE centres Publish the policy statement Lead the process Decision-maker for the HE component

12 The consultation Feedback sought from FE and HE sectors, RDAs, local authorities, employers and community groups Responses will inform the process for creating HE centres on-line consultation 8 consultation questions

13 Next steps On-line consultation closes - 17 October 2008 Report to HEFCE Board – 17 December 2008 Launch of new policy document – January 2009
