Olympic Games is major international sporting events, which are held every four years.

Selecting the city Accepting applications candidate cities was completed on 15 July 2003. By that time, the desire to host the Games expressed 9 cities: Havana, Istanbul, Leipzig, London, Madrid, Moscow, New York, Paris and Rio de Janeiro. London's candidacy was chosen July 6, 2005. The only head of government, who personally presented a request of his country, was in Singapore, then-Prime Minister Tony Blair.

London became the first city to the Games for the third time (before they went there in 1908 and 1948).

Logo and graphics The image is composed of four parts in the form of irregular polygons which symbolize the digits of the year the Olympics - "2", "0", "1", "2". The Paralympics logo (far left) and the different official color combinations for the Wolff Olins main logo design.

Mascots Wenlock and Mandeville

Wenlock Wenlock’s name is inspired by Much Wenlock in Shropshire, England, where in 1850 the Wenlock Olympian Society held its first Olympian Games, regarded as an inspiration for the modern Olympic games. The five friendship rings on his wrists correspond to the five Olympic rings, and three points on his head represent the three places on the podium. The pattern on his body symbolises the whole world coming to London, and the shape of his helmet represents the shape of the Olympic Stadium.

Mandeville Mandeville is named after the Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. In 1948, Stoke Mandeville organised the first Stoke Mandeville Games, considered to be the precursor to the Paralympics. The three spikes on Mandeville's helmet represent the Paralympic Agitos. He also represents friendship.

Anthem of the Olympic The official anthem of the Olympic Games in London, was the song "Survival" group Muse. The song was made during the opening of the Olympic Games, as well as all the award ceremonies athletes. The song became the main theme for the international television savers Olympics.

Opening ceremony The opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics was held on 27 July and called "Isles of Wonder“. Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle was its artistic director, with the music directors being the electronic music duo Rick Smith and Karl Hyde of Underworld. The Games were officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. It was the second Games the Queen had opened personally, the first being the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. The Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Games attracted a peak viewing audience of over 27 million viewers (around half of the population of the United Kingdom watched BBC1 live simultaneously).

Closing ceremony The closing ceremony of the London 2012 Summer Olympics was held on 12 August 2012. In addition to protocol, the ceremony featured a flashback fiesta to British music with The Who finishing out the performance. The ceremony also included a handover of the Olympic flag by Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, to Eduardo Paes, Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, the host city of the 2016 Summer Olympics.
